LA ROCA ABSOLUT AMBIENT COMPETITION

The island off  Ibiza called Es Vedrá, in front of the bay of Cala d´Hort, a magical place that leaves nobody indifferent, is “the rock” that has been the source of inspiration for Nacho Sotomayor for his series of records “LA ROCA” which he started in 1999.

During these years he has published six volumes of “La Roca” and other albums like "Melismas" / "Dies Irae" (1998), "Interior" (2007) and recently“Newey” (2009), with  Rebecca Newey, more pop-soul in style. He has worked with other recognised spanish singers like Bebe, Marta Sánchez and Najwa Nimri, with whom he has created tracks, necessary for fans of ambient.

Less known in Spain but well regarded overseas, Nacho sotomayor has created scores for the Armani collections in Italy and for the National Geographic Society. In 2008 he received the “Premio de la Música” award for best electronic music with the guitarrist Jose Luis Encinas, “Untitled for a Guitar”, Interior (2007). This year he is nominated for the same prize with Bebe for “Timeless”, La Roca vol.6 (2008).

Absolut Ambient is the new record label he started with his brother and right hand, Francisco Sotomayor, who also colaborated in “Dies Irae” and other tracks in the series. This will give rise to more new material for La Roca Vol.7, which will be released in May.

The Competition

Absolut Ambient and Nacho Sotomayor, propose your participation in a competition and become part of the legend of La Roca.
There are two possibilities to participate.

By remixing one of Nacho Sotomayor´s tracks, or create an ambient – chill track of your own.
The winners of the selection will be published the digital label Absolut Ambient (ambient.net) or released in the new Vol. of La Roca.

1.- Remix Timeless / I Believe.

Rules:

1. Remix of : Timeless & I Believe
Remix one or both of these. Nacho Sotomayor has prepared packs with the sound for each track (loops, bass, pads and vocals).

• The tracks have to include the packet´s contents, one or both themes, and you can submit up to 3 remixes per song.
• It is forbidden to use sounds, voices and samples that were used on other productions.
• It is allowed to use kicks, snares, hats etc. As are plugins, effects and sinths.
• The remixes can be house, techno, electro, trance, minimal, or any sub-style.
• Length: Minimum, 4 minuites maximum 8 minuites. Any track under or over this time limit will be automatically disqualified.

2.- Free Track.

Create your own track ambient-chillout-downtempo, you have total creative freedom.

• The tracks have to be 100% original. No bootleg, mashup remix or sample from comercial tracks.
• It is forbidden to use sounds, voices and samples that were used on other productions.
• It is allowed to use kicks, snares, hats etc. As are plugins, effects and sinths.
• The 1 – 3 remixes have to be ambient – chillout – downtempo.
• The bpm speed between: 80 – 120 bpm
• Length: Minimum, 4 minuites maximum 8 minuites. Any track under or over this time limit will be automatically disqualified.

General Conditions

• The competitor will be legally responsible for his own work.
• Upon submitting your music you agree with the rules and abide by them.
• The deadline for the delivery will be 18:00 MCT 6th of April 2009. No work received after this deadline will be entered in the competition.
• Group colaborations are permitted
• A member of the group can present as an individual.
• Each participant (group or solo) can submit up to 3 remixes per song.
• Absolut Ambient as the organiser will reserve the right to modify these rules and general conditins if necessary, advising the participant in advance.
• The winners will submit the original tracks in wav format for masterization including the corresponding sequencing archive.

Send in mp3 format through Megaupload or Sendspace or similar, not directly to the mailbox.

The Prize

The winners in each category will have their songs edited and published by the label Absolut Ambient, the label of the brothers Sotomayor.
The winning track will sign a contract, and be published by the record company in La Roca Vol. 7
